Let me tell you something about Nagercoil
Nagercoil is a part of Kanyakumari, the southernmost part of India. If you ask what’s great about Nagercoil, it's the people and landscape over there. The language and food are a mix of Tamil and Malayalam. Added to that there are a lot of coconut and Rubber tree farms. The last part or tip of western ghats ends over here. You should really experience a train journey from Tirunelveli to Nagercoil. If you are a Motorcycle rider like me, you would really enjoy cruising on the roads of Nagercoil.
What about Kalikesam Waterfalls?
There are other waterfalls in and near Nagercoil where the public is allowed easily. I am not that kind of guy and I always like offbeat destinations like these. These are the places where you can find peace and you can connect yourself with nature. This waterfall is not available every time to enter and that's what makes it special. Let me tell you about my experience during my visit to Kalikesam waterfalls.

Reaching the Check post
Yeah, the way to the waterfalls is guarded by the Tamilnadu Forest Department check post. You have to get permission from them in order to go there. This is due to the fact that elephants are frequent over there. In order to reach kalikesam waterfalls, you have to pass through beautiful rubber plantations. Kalikesam waterfall is situated inside Keeriparai Wildlife sanctuary of Kanyakumari. I and my friends were on my way to Kalikesam waterfall from Kanyakumari after spending a great time in Kanyakumari. We reached the check post at around 8:45 a.m. We already got permission from the forest department. The Guards over the checkpost told us to wait until 9 a.m. You have to use your own vehicle to reach the waterfall. There is also a bus service but it stops in the middle. We came to buy a car and we started to our destination when the guard opened the checkpost.
In between Rubber plantations
In the beginning, the roads were pretty tough and later the roads were so smooth. There were some thick bushes and deep forest during the start and later rubber plantations were everywhere. We stopped by to get into the rubber plantations and to experience what a raw natural rubber latex feels like. All the trees were grown tall and looked symmetrical. The drive was super amazing with symmetrical kinds of trees on our left and right. It looks like we are on our way to heaven😂.

Don’t believe google map here
We are so new to the place, and we followed google maps. Yeah, google maps was totally right until the end. We were in the car and it told us to drive into the woods. We stopped by there and were so confused. We heard the sound of a river stream nearby. We followed the road to figure out where it ends. Gladly it ended at a small river stream that looked appeared shallow. We don’t whether we reached the destination. The road continues after the river stream which was uphill. We had to cross the river stream which has a lot of rocks and pebbles. Since we had a low ground clearance car, we decided not to take risks.
The destination is reached
We waited for some time and a local villager passed by us and told us that this was the destination. This was not completely a waterfall, but it can be found on the top which is also considered dangerous. You can find the river stream by locating the temple which is on the river shore or by asking a local about the temple. And that's it what are you waiting for, get into the water. When I entered the stream, I thought it was so shallow and easy. But I was wrong, it goes so deep gradually. The water is so crystal clear you don't need swimming goggles. You can see fishes inside the water swimming with you. If you stay still, you can have the privilege to get bitten by those small beautiful fishes. The river stream is a completely natural therapy. Being there 2 times, I still miss that place in Nagercoil. You feel very refreshed like you came out of a natural medicinal therapy that is complete.
When to reach?
The best season to visit here is during the winter to summer. During summer and beyond it , even if the water flows, you will find the environment to be dry and during the rainy season, the water flow level increases which is dangerous.
What other things can you do?
Besides the river stream, take an opportunity to walk on the roads which are covered by rubber plantations on both sides. Just switch off your thinking, and just start to listen to the chirping birds, slow howling winds, the smell of the environment and let yourself sync and vibe with the woods. If you have an off-road motorcycle or a car, don’t be like me and go up and find out the actual waterfalls. You can also afford accommodations in the Tamilnadu forest department guest house which was near the check post.
